JAL Sticks With American Airlines
After much speculation, on Feb. 9 Japan Airlines announced its decision to stay with the oneworld alliance and to strengthen its partnership with fellow member, AMR Corp's American Airlines. JAL and AA are keen to enter a joint business venture to enhance their scope of cooperation on trans-Pacific routes and will jointly apply to the United States Department of Transportation and the Ministry of Land Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan for antitrust immunity. The newly appointed JAL Group COO and President, Masaru Onishi said: “We have analyzed this issue in great detail, and we are excited at the prospects in terms of the convenience and benefits for our customers. We also firmly believe that the advantages of this development with American Airlines can strongly support JAL at a time when we are striving towards the revival of our business, which we are determined to achieve.”
