Qantas To Revolutionize Airport Experience
Qantas has unveiled plans introduce a next-generation check-in system that will halve check-in times for domestic flights in Australia. The Airport of the Future initiative aims to eliminate queues for Qantas passengers. In future, Qantas Frequent Flyer cards will be embedded with an intelligent chip so the card acts like a boarding pass and permanent bag tag. Qantas passengers will just swipe their Frequent Flyer card on a reader and head to a simplified baggage drop, or straight through security to their departure gate, or to the Qantas lounge. The service will be available for all Qantas Frequent Flyers from Silver through to Platinum and all Qantas Club Members. This next-generation check-in will commence in Perth (PER) in mid-2010, followed by Sydney (SYD) later in the year. Melbourne (MEL) and other CityFlyer ports will follow in 2011.
